The quintessential Swiss cheese with cherry-sized holes. True Emmental cheese can only be made in the Emmental Valley of west central Switzerland.
Its production is regulated according to strict AOP (
“Appellation d'Origine Protégée”) or “Protected Designation of Origin” regulations, which state the region of Switzerland where its milk must be sourced from, and where it is produced and matured.
Its unique flavour is a result of the fresh country air and lush green meadows with spicy herbs where the cows graze. Each wheel of Emmental weighs between 75kgs and 125kgs, and is matured for at least 120 days before it is ready to enjoy.
Emmental is an essential cheese in any Swiss Fondue because of its meltability and a sweet and nutty flavour. Try it in a sandwich, grilled cheese, or serve it on a cheese platter with a glass of Riesling.
This Emmental is a block, it is also available sliced in 150gm packets: click here.

About Le Superbe:
For over 155 years, Lustenberger & Dürst and its Le Superbe brand have stood for the fine art of Swiss cheesemaking. This makes them one of the oldest cheesemakers and cheese maturing companies in Switzerland. While they produce some cheese themselves, most of their traditional varieties are produced in small villages in the Swiss Alps, and are sent to them for their expertise in slow and meticulous maturing before being packaged. Their secret? A passion for the finest Swiss milk, with floral and herbaceous flavours of the mountainous region and its unique climate.
